Three LDA Design projects shortlisted for Planning Awards

LDA Design

LDA Design has three projects shortlisted in four categories for the Planning Awards later this month.

Swansea Bay, a visionary example of placemaking, has been shortlisted for both Infrastructure and Planning and for Sustainability (jointly with Tidal Lagoon Company). A new category has been created to recognise outstanding masterplanning, and our masterplan for the campus for UCL East in the Queen Elizabeth Park is in the running; and St Vincent Plaza in Glasgow has been recognised for Partnership Working.

A new vision for Swansea (pictured)
The proposed tidal power lagoon in Swansea, a world first, will not only provide carbon-free energy but also much needed urban regeneration, opening up an area of waterfront cut off from the public for over a century.

As masterplanners and lead designers on the project, LDA Design is working with Tidal Lagoon Power to ensure the scheme serves the community and is well linked, including to Swansea University’s new campus. The proposal includes a national sailing centre, a new visitor centre, maritime park, beach and saltwater marsh. Click here to find out more.

Going east
In the 19th century, University College of London (UCL) disrupted the social status quo by reimagining the university as a force for social good. The university is building on this original vision in a new part of the capital to create a different kind of university environment, breaking down the barriers between academia and the local community.

Developed in partnership with the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), LDA Design has created a landscape-led masterplan borne out of the key principles of connectivity and legibility. The plan delivers a radical new model for a university campus: a rich, outward-facing pattern of places well integrated into the community and surroundings. Click here for more details.

New public realm in the heart of Glasgow
Winner of the top prize for place at the Scottish Awards for Quality in Planning, Glasgow’s St Vincent Plaza was LDA Design’s first delivered public realm space in Scotland.

Developed by Abstract, St Vincent Plaza includes new public realm which links two major streets. It is one of Glasgow’s only new streetscapes in recent years, making a positive contribution to the city’s wider urban landscape. Click here for more.
