Major regeneration plan in Derby given the go ahead

The second phase of a major regeneration scheme in Derby has been given the go-ahead.

The latest Castleward development will see more than 100 homes constructed across two sites with the first on land bounded by Carrington Street, Wellington Street, Canal Street and the second by Liversage Street, John Street and The Boulevard.

The plan was submitted in July 2017 to Derby City Council by its preferred partner Compendium Living.

Phase one, which was completed in early 2017, included 163 new homes, community facilities, commercial space and improvements to the streets and open areas.

A statement submitted to the council on behalf of the applicant said: “The implementation of our shared vision for Castleward will uplift a neglected part of the city, provide a vibrant and attractive connection from Derby Midland Station to the city centre and set a new standard for urban residential development and place making.

“Most importantly, the greater masterplan will create a new sustainable neighbourhood which will be home for over 800 households, providing almost all the amenities and facilities necessary to support modern life within walking or cycling distance.

“We believe our proposal responses appropriately to the existing context, and further enhances phase one.”
